Polypyrrole composite nanofiltration membrane elements possess selective separation properties. They can remove almost all bacteria, viruses, microorganisms, and macromolecular organic substances from water or solutions. These membranes also show a high removal rate for antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and most divalent and higher-valent ions, while retaining beneficial nutrients and small molecules, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and silicic acid.
